Transforming policy research for the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda

The thematic focus of this informal workshop is “Strengthening the policy research uptake in service of the 2030 Agenda” which aims to address the significant demand for evidence-based research in the United Nations system and to improve the policy research within the UN system to help achieve the 2030 SDGs. Both the United Nations Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) and the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) are inspired by the conviction that the 2030 Agenda and its 17 goals provides momentum for a renewed UN engagement with the academic and research policy institutions and individuals. Following the successful engagement between JIU and WASD in their Public Private Partnerships for the implementation of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda project, which will be presented next month during WASD 16th International annual conference in Geneva, JIU and WASD are collaborating for the second time in this important project that has the potential to transform the way the UN conducts and uses research to achieve the SDGs, and the way research institutes access and benefit from UN data.
To kick off this process, JIU and WASD are organising a round table discussion where the UN JIU Inspector Dr. Petru Dumitriu, coordinator of the project presents details and TOR of the UN research policy project and we will invite views from participants on the project and the way forward.

- Do you believe that research produced in the UN system influences political decision-makers?
- Do you believe that research produced outside UN system influences UN policy-makers?
- What would you expect from the UN system in terms of using policy research?
